What Is Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, like when you’re day-dreaming.  Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis, this focused attention, to look inward and solve problems.

The practitioner (known as a hypnotist) is skilled at getting clients into a state of focused attention (known as hypnosis), much like when you’re totally absorbed in a story you are reading.  With this attention turned inward, the practitioner knows how to help the client find in their mind whatever underlies their problem. While in this state of focused attention people are able to make necessary changes to solve their problems.

Hypnosis is completely safe and natural and has been around for thousands of years.  See our article on common hypnosis myths.

Hypnotherapy is effective for a wide variety of problems or “change work”.  This is no surprise given that hypnotherapy is really just re-training the mind to behave differently.

One category is “generative change”.  This is where people want to improve something for which they already have skills, like their favorite sport.  Serena Williams, one of the all-time greatest tennis players, says tennis is 70% mental.  The same is true for any sport, and that’s why hypnotherapy is so effective.

Aside from generative change, there is a wide array of “problems” that people want to correct.  Simple bad habits like nail biting, for example, can be easily solved.

Stress is a huge problem that underlies most chronic conditions.  Doctors know stress makes everything worse. The good news is that serious problems or illnesses sometimes heal or self-correct if we remove associated stress.

Many of these serious problems and illnesses are aggravated by “hidden stress”.  The patient has been living with these deep stressful feelings for so long that they feel normal, and are often no longer noticed.  Hypnotherapy has tools for finding and removing hidden stress.

Meditation is a good way to de-stress, but many people find they don’t have the patience for it.  Those who try it often benefit in the moment, but find their stress or anxiety returns afterwards.  Hypnotherapy solves this by removing the stress. It changes how you respond to the world.

Unfortunately, very few hypnotists are properly trained on how to remove hidden stress that is typically associated with childhood trauma.  Our hypnotists are highly trained and experienced specialists and are among the best in the world. We know how to remove the hidden stress that underlies your problems.
